B. Visual Arts
Lindsey’s background in the visual and decorative arts, informed by contemporary architectural design education brings to Carter Williamson a highly individual understanding of spatial dynamics, pattern and material craftsmanship.
Since coming to Carter Williamson in 2009, Lindsey has gravitated towards the model workshop, and now makes all of the models for the studio. Planning and light, structure and form, even materiality are all tested in the model making process, and Lindsey’s models are a way for the studio to find new ways of resolving difficult spatial and structural problems.
The models are often operative, with moving parts and sections that remove to reveal hidden aspects of the scheme or represent and compare multiple design iterations.
Besides being a meticulous craftsman in wood, digital design and fabrication with laser cutting and CNC machining are also part of Lindsey’s suite of skills, along with a comprehensive understanding of pattern making and casting in ceramics, glass, silicone and resin.
