21 Years of Carter Williamson

We gathered recently at Hinchcliff House to mark 21 years of Carter Williamson.

The celebration was an opportunity to reflect on where we began, the people who have shaped the studio, and a body of work guided by a long-held commitment to the public good. Celebrating within Hinchcliff House, a project we delivered in collaboration with AMP Capital as part of the broader Quay Quarter precinct, felt especially fitting.

Founded in 2004 as a small home-based studio, the practice has grown into a team of more than 20 working across housing, commercial and public architecture. While the scale of our projects has evolved, our core belief has not: architecture must do more than respond to a brief. It must contribute meaningfully to the street, the city and civic life. That belief continues to shape the work we pursue. From individual homes to complex apartment buildings and larger mixed-use developments.

Architecture is always collaborative. The projects we celebrated are the result of long-standing partnerships with clients, consultants and builders who trust the often imperfect process of making architecture real. We are grateful for those relationships and for the collective effort behind every completed building.

Reaching 21 years is both a milestone and a moment to look forward. Our ambition is measured. We are not focused on growth for its own sake, but on continuing to refine what we do; to be more rigorous, more generous and more deliberate in our contribution to the built environment.

Sydney’s future depends on many authors shaping its fabric. We are proud to be one of them and look forward to the work ahead.
