Nick and Louise, Urban Oasis, Annandale

Annandale House

My husband and I consider ourselves extremely fortunate in our choice of architect for our home renovation. We were in total agreement as to the credentials and qualities we sought in the architect we were to work with on our home. Our residence was not the typical terrace awaiting gentle beautification but rather an odd, clunky, cumbersome, unworkable box with no outdoor space or usable family room, demanding major redesign and reconstruction.

We wanted to engage an architect who was passionate about design, who could listen, advise and create, with the skills to interpret our needs and vision, to craft a space that was both true to the buildings origins but simultaneously forward thinking and contemporary in application. After reading a story about young innovative architects in the Sydney Morning Herald, we circled Shaun Carter’s picture and said ‘that’s him!’ After several meetings and long vibrant discussions, many glasses of wine, site visits to other Carter Williamson creations, we were ready to begin. The project was a screaming success from start to completion. Shaun displayed great vision, passion and commitment, an uncanny ability to visualise and bring to life those wishes we struggled to articulate and he managed the entire process without tumult. Not only were we rewarded with an intelligently designed, beautiful, environmentally responsible and very individual home, we gained a very special friend in the process. Anyone visiting our home exclaims incessant, often colourful superlatives!!

We would recommend Shaun to anyone wishing to engage an architect, would support him in any endeavour and could not imagine a more worthy recipient of the Dulux Study Tour Prize.

Yours sincerely,
Nick Litchfield & Dr Louise Shewan
