Carter Williamson Architects

Winner – 2020 Australian Institute of Architects, NSW Chapter, Best In Practice Prize

We are happy to share that Carter Williamson has been awarded the 2020 Best In Practice Prize by the NSW Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects. The award recognises excellence in practice and the development of supportive and inclusive workplaces, contributing to the overall success and elevation of a positive workplace culture in Architecture. We would like to congratulate joint winner MHNDU, and Mirvac for their commendation. Our principal Shaun Carter best summarises what this awards means for CW:

‘It is lovely to be recognised for an award that we believe is one of the most significant new awards the Institute offers. We believe it is a statement of leadership and intent by our professional organisation; The Australian Institute of Architects (NSW Chapter) of how we want practice to be. That we can be judged not only by our work, but by who we are, how we conduct ourselves, and how we look after our people.

Carter Williamson set out to make a kind, family friendly, inclusive and gender-balanced workplace and that is exactly what we have today. Working on the principle that we are only as good as our people, we have actively nurtured and promoted the many good people that have called Carter Williamson home, or who still do. Significantly, we have always been gender-balanced and have promoted the women in our team to firsts in all our leadership roles; from Project Architects, Associates, Practice Managers and Directors.

We are extraordinarily proud of the workplace we have made for the Carter Williamson’s and the work we do for our wonderful clients. But, as always, there is still more to do.’

Congratulations Sean and colleagues - an inclusive practice, wonderfully creative designs and a passion for preservation of this city's significant built heritage you deserve recognition

Congratulations, Shaun and your staff. It seems the team still has the employees from when i was building for you10 + years ago.
I no longer have architectural work and I would be tentative about restarting now as the business has moved on without me. Instead I have discovered that economics is based on lies and ,misrepresentations of the real world.I am busy trying to get others up to speed re truthful economics. It's different but just as important as Architecture, if not more so because the shonky politics picks winners and losers in life and the economy.
I did give a talk at IWAN about ita few years ago, and people are taking notice now. Sirius depends on it too. It would provide an answer for its future.
It's not making me miss architecture, but I do fear for its long term future. But you have deservedly done well, Shaun.
My best wishes to you and the team for more success
